On 3-7 March 2018, Mr Juris Štālmeistars, Director of the Economic relations, Trade and Development Cooperation Directorate of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited India. During his visit Mr Štālmeistars participated in the 4th India-Europe 29 Business Forum, which was organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Ministry of External Affairs of India, as well as had bilateral meetings with Indian representatives on furthering economic cooperation between Latvia and India. H.E. Ambassador of Latvia to India Mr Aivars Groza and diplomats of the Embassy accompanied Mr Štālmeistars during his visit.
On 5 March, Mr Štālmeistars addressed India-Europe 29 Business Forum, which was dedicated this year to issues related to Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Mr Štālmeistars shared Latvia’s experience developing data and technology driven economy, where a free data accessibility and thus related involvement of the society as well as development of innovative products play a significant role. In his presentation, he highlighted a pilot project in medicine as an example, purpose of which was to collect health related data for a timely diagnosis and prevention of cancer.
On 6 March, Mr Štālmeistars met with the Honorable Minister of Commerce and Industry of India Mr Suresh Prabhu to discuss options of deepening economic cooperation between Latvia and India. Minister’s attention was drawn to the ongoing successful joint Latvian-Indian company project “Bhandar” in Kundziņsala, Riga Freeport, purpose of which is to develop a multifunctional warehouse complex for distributing Indian export goods over the European and CIS markets. The Honorable Minister Mr Prabhu expressed his support for strengthening economic and business ties between the both countries.
