On 17 November 2019, the annual flower-laying and candle-lighting ceremony was held at Vestre Cemetery in Copenhagen to honour Latvia's independence and those Latvians who died in exile. The embassy had invited Latvians in Denmark and the embassy's Danish friends to gather at the monument founded by the exile Latvians in Denmark and invited to lay flowers and light candles in their memory. In her speech, Ambassador Alda Vanaga mentioned the importance of the exile Latvians on Latvia's path to independence and stressed that without these nationals the freedom of Latvia would not have been possible.
