Ambassador Solvita Āboltiņa presents her credentials to the President of Italy

On 10 September 2018 in an official ceremony in Rome, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Italy, Solvita Āboltiņa, presented her credentials to the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

In a conversation with the Italian President, the Ambassador expressed her satisfaction at the bilateral relations between Latvia and Italy. Italy had a special role to play in the international recognition of Latvia and during the period when Latvia’s independence was being restored. The Embassy of Latvia in Italy is carrying out a number of Centenary-related projects. Ambassador Solvita Āboltiņa highlighted in particular Italy’s contribution to the strengthening of security in the region and said she was prepared to continue developing the relationship between the two countries, including in economy, culture, education, and science.

The Italian President made a state visit to Latvia on 2-4 July, and he is expected to participate in the informal meeting of the Arraiolos Group in Latvia on 13-14 September.

Background information

Established in 2003, the Arraiolos Group is an informal group of heads of state of some EU Member States. On 13-14 September, Riga will host the 14th summit of the Arraiolos Group. The President of Latvia, Raimonds Vējonis, will then welcome the Presidents of Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, Poland, Portugal, and Slovenia.
