The society, businesses, non-governmental organisations, and public authorities of Latvia continue providing selfless assistance to Ukrainian people afflicted by the war that Russia has unleashed.

According to information provided by Ziedot.lv (Donate) charity organisation, Latvian people have donated 7,501,044 euros in support of Ukraine. Those funds have gone to purchase medicine and medical supplies, shipments of humanitarian assistance, and to provide support for Ukraine’s defence and Ukrainian refugees in Latvia.

As of today, 41 shipments of humanitarian aid to the amount of two million euros have been delivered to Ukraine. The deliveries are still being put together and, on the average, four are sent every week.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ziedot.lv has sent 19 shipments of medical supplies, hygiene products, household goods, essential items, and food to Transcarpathian, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kirovograd, Kramatorsk, Mykolayiv, and Zaporizhye regions, and delivered supplies to several hospitals. A shipment to Kyiv is currently being prepared.

The “Viegli palīdzēt” (Easy to Help) movement, in cooperation with businesses and Ziedot.lv, and in close cooperation with the Foreign Ministry and the State Firefighting and Rescue Service have delivered 18 shipments of essential items, hygiene products, medical supplies, food and clothing to Transcarpathian, Odessa and Rivne regions. Essential items and food were delivered to a Ukrainian refugees’ centre in Chisinau, Moldova, on 7 April.

The “Uzņēmēji mieram” (Businesses for Peace) initiative and the Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA) working together with the Foreign Ministry have delivered four shipments donated by businesses of communication technology and electrical equipment, including to the Digital Affairs Ministry of Ukraine. On the whole, donations of more than one million euros have made it possible to purchase much-needed goods for Ukrainians. Various other goods are also being donated and delivered to Ukraine, for instance, unmanned aerial vehicles, cars, electrical equipment, clothing and food. Business people have covered transportation and fuel costs to bring civilians fleeing Ukraine to Latvia.

The empathy and response from Latvian people are boundless. Gratitude goes to everyone in Latvia who has been offering selfless support to Ukrainians. We are prepared to continue with any assistance to Ukraine devastated by Russia’s hostilities and to Ukrainian people as long as it would be necessary.

Support from Latvia’s civil society and the private sector is coordinated by the “Viegli palīdzēt” movement through www.ukraine-latvia.com platform; please use it for further contacts. For donations, visit the www.ziedot.lv platform and support the initiative, Stand With Ukraine.
