With heartfelt reverence for his lifetime work, Latvia's Embassy to Sweden commemorates Ulf Schenkmanis, Latvia's Honorary Consul to Varmland lan, Sweden, who passed away last night.

Ulf Schenkmanis dedicated his creative work to journalism. He has been a radio and TV producer, and a writer. Schenkmanis has also compiled a series of travel guides for various countries. He intended to dedicate the eighteenth volume of the guide to Latvia and its regions. Now, the beginnings of this work are lost along with their author, leaving us with a warm sense of gratitude for the ardour that dwelled in the heart of Ulf Schenkmanis and guided him in his work. His ambition to see all things himself is particularly inspiring, as Ulf Schenkmanis strived to shape his work as his own, pure and first-hand experience of Latvia.

Ulf Schenkmanis was appointed as Latvia's Honorary Consul to Varmland lan, Sweden, on 20 February 2003.
