The Latvian National Opera participated in the Dalhalla Opera Festival on August 13 and August 14 with guest performances of "Eugen Onegin" and "La Bohème".

In co-operation with the organizers of the Dalhalla Opera Festival, The Embassy of Latvia invited several prominent Latvia-friendly guests. Among the arrived were the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Mr. Björn von Sydow and spouse, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Laila Freivalds and spouse, Swedish diplomats Mr. Hans Magnusson and Mr. Lars Fredén, as well as several Ambassadors residing in Sweden. After the performance of "Eugen Onegin", a reception hosted by the Latvian Ambassador to Sweden, Mr. Artis Bertulis and his wife Esmeralda, was held in honour of the guests and performers.

Both performances were practically sold out, so that some 4000 spectators attended each performance. "La Bohème" proved to be particulary popular, the tickets having been sold out already in spring.

More than ten years ago Dalhalla was discovered by the Swedish opera Singer Margareta Dellefors when she was searching for a suitable site for open-air performances. The stage in Dalhalla, measuring 400 metres in length, 175 metres in breadth and 60 metres in depth, was built in 1991 inside a former stone quarry. Aside from its spectacular location, Dalhalla's foremost quality is its renowned acoustics.
