On September 20 the Ambassador of Latvia, Artis Bertulis, inaugurated the exhibition Gleznas uz skārda "1:1000" at the Greek Cultural Centre in Stockholm. The exhibition is the last in the international exhibition cycle "Latvia-Sweden" in Sweden.

The cycle will continue with two exhibitions by Swedish artists at Reitern-house: To September 24 the works of Lara and Joanna Hofstein were on display and from September 26 to October 24 a joint exhibition by artists Nikos Terzis, Maciej Lipinski and Ulf S Robé will take place.

Within the exhibition cycle four Latvian artists have displayed their works in Stockholm. In March Martins Virbulis digital photography exhibition Invert Your Mind was shown, in April Anatolijs Sandurovs graphic exhibition Ikonas parafrāze, in May Laima Kaugures exhibition of textiles Lins. Zīds. Vilna. and in June Janis Kupcs Ainava ar koku.

The aim of the cycle is to demonstrate the diversity in Latvian and Swedish art. The artists have been specifically chosen to reflect different schools of art, cultural experience and methods of work.

The art of Anatolijs Sandurovs manifests strong influence from orthodox icon painting. Laima Kaugure has developed a technique of working linen into light, almost transparent, objects in natural pastel tones. Joanna Hofstein has extensive experience from creative work in New York and the painter Nikos Terzis, a graduate of the Warsaw Art Academy, has spent the last ten years working in Stockholm.

The exhibition cycle is a result of co-operation between the Embassy of Latvia and the Centre for Art and Culture Coordination. The organisers would like to thank the Cultural Capital Fund, the Greek Cultural Centre in Stockholm, the scholarship programme Baltijas Sleipners and Riga Sea Line.
