Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins to go on working visit to Sweden[09 Jun 2009] On 10-11 June, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will go on a working visit to Stockholm, in response to an invitation by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Carl Bildt. The visit is organized as part of the preparations for the Swedish Presidency of the EU. During the visit, foreign ministers of a number of EU states will discuss the priorities in the field of foreign affairs proposed by Sweden for its forthcoming Presidency; the priorities will be presented to his counterparts by the Swedish Foreign Minister.
Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins: enhanced competitiveness and business environment in Baltic Sea Region - priority on CBSS agenda[04 Jun 2009] On 3-4 June Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins took part in the 15th Ministerial Session of the Council of the Baltic Sea States in Elsinore, Denmark. As part of their discussions, the ministers reviewed the results achieved in the area of regional co-operation during the Danish presidency, granted new countries the status as observers to the Council, thus further enlarging the organisation, as well as set new priorities.
Andris Teikmanis and State Secretary of Swedish Prime Minister's Office discuss EU future Strategy for Baltic Sea Region[27 May 2009] On 27 May, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Teikmanis, met with the State Secretary for the European Union at the Office of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden, Maria Asenius, in order to discuss the issues related to the development of the upcoming EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (Strategy) and the preparations for Sweden's EU Presidency.
Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andris Teikmanis in Sweden[19 Mar 2009] On 19 March, Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andris Teikmanis is in Stockholm to participate in a meeting hosted by the Swedish Prime Minister's Office on the emerging EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. By June of this year, the European Commission must present proposals for the strategy which, it is anticipated, will be adopted during the Swedish presidency of the EU during the second half of 2009.
