Stockholm University offers a full 5 term programme of Latvian language
studies at the Department of Baltic Studies. Courses begin at the basic
level where no prior knowledge of Latvian is necessary and proceed to the
Bachelor and Master's levels. There is also a programme at the doctoral
level for the study of Baltic languages. Courses at the lower levels
concentrate not only on theoretical knowledge of but also on the practical
use of the language. There are also shorter general courses on Baltic
studies in Swedish requiring no knowledge of Latvian. This education is one
of its kind not only in Sweden but also in the Scandinavian countries.
The Department of Baltic Studies is located on level 4 (street level) of
the main building (Södra huset) of Stockholm University in the rooms D 4107
- D 4120 in the corridor connecting Hus D to Hus E.
