Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins invites foreign policy experts to discuss agendas of NATO and OSCE foreign minister meetings [01 Dec 2008]
On 1 December, the regular Foreign Policy Council meeting will be held, chaired by Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins, during which experts are expected to exchange opinions on the latest foreign policy developments and this year's upcoming events on the foreign policy calendar.

On 1 December, media representatives are invited to the press conference of Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins about the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Brussels and the meeting of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Foreign Ministers in Helsinki, as well as other current events in foreign policy.
Foreign Minister extends condolences to people of India with regard to militant attacks on Mumbai [27 Nov 2008]
Minister for Foreign Affairs Maris Riekstins has expressed his deepest sympathy to the people of India regarding the attacks by gunmen which took place in the Indian city of Mumbai on 26 November, in which more than 100 people were killed and more than 300 were injured.

On 26 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will meet with media representatives from Ukraine who have arrived on a visit to Latvia. Third political and development advisor from Latvia destined for Afgahanistan [14 Nov 2008]
On 18 November, a political and development advisor of Latvia, Valts Vitums, is to go to Afghanistan. The advisor will be stationed together with the basic contingent to the National Armed Forces of Latvia in the Provincial Reconstruction Team of Maymana, Faryab province, within the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.

On 1 November, as part of the Riga Conference Europe Whole and Free: 90 years in the making, four panel discussions were held on the following topics: Future of NATO: What Unites Allies?, Russia – "no business as usual"?, Consolidating the EU: Policy Implications, and also Vision of Europe Whole and Free: Options of Tomorrow,  with participation of President Valdis Zatlers of Latvia, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves of Estonia and President Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia.

Foreign Ministers of Latvia and United Kingdom discuss current agenda of EU and NATO foreign ministers [28 Oct 2008]
On 27 October, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins was on an official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. During his visit, Minister Riekstins met with his counterpart David Miliband, with representatives of the British-Latvian All-Party Parliamentary Group, and with the UK experts in EU affairs, security policy and also energy and climate change.

On 15 and 16 October, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will take part in the meeting of the European Council. The Latvian delegation will be headed by Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis.

On 13 October in Luxembourg, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins took part in the meeting of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC). It focused upon the preparation of the next meeting of the EU Heads of Sate and Government – the European Council in Brussels on 15 and 16 October, and also on issues related to the situation in Georgia.
Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins condemns attack on Turkish soldiers [07 Oct 2008]
The Minister of Foreign Affairs has expressed his deepest sympathy to the people of Turkey in relation to Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) terrorist attack, on 3 October, on a Turkish military outpost in southeastern Turkey near the Iraqi border, in which 15 Turkish soldiers have died.

Annual meeting of Baltic and Nordic foreign ministry state secretaries to be held in Tallinn [30 Sep 2008]
The annual meeting of the state secretaries of Baltic and Nordic foreign ministries (Nordic-Baltic-8 or NB-8) will take place in Tallinn, Estonia on 1 to 2 October. Latvia will be represented by Under-Secretary of State Ilze Juhansone.

On 25 September during the UN General Assembly, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maris Riekstins met with the Foreign Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abul Gheit. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss current events of the bilateral relations between Latvia and Egypt and the coming visit of the Latvian Foreign Minister to Egypt at the beginning of November.

On 23 September Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Riekstins met with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Ogryzko, to discuss the development of European Union–Ukraine and NATO-Ukraine relations, as well as current events of international politics and bilateral relations. The meeting took place during the General Assembly of the UN in New York.
