On September 19, 2000 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Mr. Indulis Berzins met the OECD Deputy Secretary General Mr. Seiichi Kondo.
"Co-operation with the OECD is important for Latvia's further successful economic development," at the beginning of meeting said Mr. Berzins. The Minister pointed out that the priority of co-operation with the OECD is its Baltic regional programme. Co-operation in the framework of the programme also helps Latvia to achieve aims for the integration into the EU. The Minister noted the importance of a dialogue with the OECD experts as well as the significance of research projects implemented by this organisation. The OECD Deputy Secretary General emphasised support to further development of the OECD Baltic regional programme and acknowledged that co-operation between Latvia and the OECD is broadening. Mr. Kondo was also interested in the progress Latvia is making in the EU accession negotiation process.
