Maris Riekstins: European security dialogue should promote trust between countries [28 Jun 2009]
On 27 – 28 June, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins took part in a meeting of foreign ministers from the participating States of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on the island of Corfu, Greece. During the meeting, the ministers discussed topical issues of security policy, spanning the three OSCE dimensions - the politico-military, the economic and environmental, and the human dimension.

On 25 June, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins met with participants of the Latvian government project The rehabilitation programme for children traumatised during the Gaza Strip conflict. Also taking part in the discussion were the Head of the Palestine General Delegation in Finland, Nabil Alwazir, the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Jordan, Khaled Miqdadi, and the Head of the Centre of Arab Culture, Hosam Abu Meri.
Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins expresses regret about non-extension of UN Observer Mission mandate in Georgia [17 Jun 2009]
"I note with regret that on Monday, 15 June, the member countries of the UN Security Council failed to reach an agreement on an extension of the mandate for the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG), after the Russian Federation used its veto right," says Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins.
Foreign Minister to participate in European Council meeting [17 Jun 2009]
On 18-19 June, Foreign Minster Maris Riekstins, as part of the delegation of Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, will participate in the European Council meeting.
Children from Gaza Strip arrive on rehabilitation course in Latvia [16 Jun 2009]
On 16 June, 18 Palestinian children from the Gaza Strip will arrive in Latvia to undergo a two-week rehabilitation course at the Social Integration State Agency in Dubulti. The Project is implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the financial and organisational support from the Honorary Consuls of Latvia in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, as well as the non-governmental organisation Lidere.

LATVIA IN NATO. A Dream Fulfilled!


On March 29 2004 during the ceremony in Washington, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia Indulis Emsis handed in Accession instruments of the North Atlantic Treaty to the U.S. Secretary of State Collin Powell. This marks the completion of legal formalities of LatviaâÀ™s accession process to NATO and LatviaâÀ™s full membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. More..
