On August 29, 2018 on behalf of the Czech Foreign Minister, the Deputy Minister Tomáš Petříček received the Ambassador of Latvia Alberts Sarkanis. The meeting took place on the occasion of termination of the Ambassador's diplomatic mission in the Czech Republic.
Deputy Minister Petříček thanked the Ambassador of Latvia for excellent cooperation and personal contribution to developing bilateral collaboration. Ambassador Sarkanis among others appreciated the deployment of Czech soldiers in Latvia in the framework of NATO mission “Enhanced Forward Presence”, highlighted the quality of bilateral trade, positive trend of Czech economy and growing number of Czech tourists in Latvia. Among other discussed topics was Centenary of Latvia and Czech Republic, the anniversary of 15 years of the European Union membership in 2019 and the Civil Service Act well-functioning in both countries.
