On 7 June a Latvian Mixed Choir “Garkalne” (conductors Evita and Jānis Tarandi) from Garkalne Municipality visited the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in the Czech Republic. The Ambassador Alberts Sarkanis expressed his gratitute for an event filled with national folk-songs as well as welcomed the choir’s participation in the 23. International Folk-Songs Festival in Prague. The “Garkalne” choir was established in 2013, but in its short history it already repeatedly performed both in Latvia and abroad: It took part in the 8th Baltic and Nordic countries Song Festival in 2015 and in the 4th International Dance and Music Festival in Budapest in 2016.
Members of the Latvian diaspora and the Czech-Latvian Club visited the event. After the performance guests could have enjoyed a “post-midsummer atmosphere” by tasting Latvian Valmiermuiža’ beer and traditional Latvian midsummer cheese.
