Education in national minority languages is a precondition for maintaining the cultural identity of national minorities in Latvia and ensuring their integration. State financed national minority education programmes in Latvia are available in seven languages. The state support for education in minority languages in Latvia exceeds that of many other European countries. Representatives of international organisations have, on a number of occasions, commended the minority education reform carried out by Latvia.
Latvia's experience with national minority education has attracted the interest of EU member states and other countries, such as Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and others. Various cooperation projects and visits are organised to present Latvia's experience of national minority education reforms.
