On 16 September 2007, Latvia and the Republic of the Philippines marked the 16th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.
The first Philippines Ambassador to Latvia, Luz G. Del Mundo, was accredited in 1992 (resident in Stockholm).
From May 1996 to June 1997, the Ambassador of the Philippines was Ms Rosario G. Manalo, and from June 1998 to June 2003 – Ms Erlinda F. Basilio.
Between 14 October 2003 and 23 April 2006, the Philippine Ambassador to Latvia was Ms Victoria S. Bataclan.
As of 13 November 2007, Maria Zeneida Angara-Collinson is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Philippines to Latvia.
Since 7 August 1994, Latvia's interests in the Philippines are represented by Honorary Consul Robert Lim Joseph.
Legal framework
There are currently no bilateral agreements signed between Latvia and the Republic of the Philippines.
Parliamentary co-operation
On 21 April 2005, Latvia-Philippines parliamentary co-operation group was established under the 8th Saeima (Parliament of Latvia). Its Chairperson is Ms Vineta Muizniece.
On 1-9 April 2005, the 112th Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly and the 176th session of the Governing Council (formerly called Inter-Parliamentary Council) were held in Manila, Philippines, with Latvia being represented by the Speaker of the Saeima, Ingrida Udre, and member of the Saeima, Olegs Denisovs.
