Foreign ministers and their representatives of Baltic and Visegrad countries, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, and Sweden note significance of Eastern Partnership [25 Nov 2008] On 24 November the meeting of foreign ministers and representatives of the Baltic states, the Visegrad Group countries (the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary), Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, and Sweden was held in Warsaw, Poland.

The Prime Minister met his Baltic counterparts in Tartu (State Chancellery) [21 Nov 2008] On November 20-21 this year, Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, participated in the annual meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers which was also participated by Andrus Ansip, Prime Minister of Estonia, and Gediminas Kirkilas, Prime Minister of Lithuania.

Māris Riekstiņš to take part in Baltic and Benelux foreign minister meeting in Estonia [30 Sep 2008] On 1-2 October Minister for Foreign Affairs Māris Riekstiņš will participate in a meeting of foreign ministers of the Baltic and Benelux states ("3+3") in Estonia. This will be the second "3+3" encounter at the level of foreign ministers aimed at continuing co-operation between Baltic and Benelux states at regional and EU level.

Third Congress of Latvian-Lithuanian Forum held in Rezekne [21 Sep 2008] On 20-21 September, the Third Forum of the Latvian - Lithuanian Forum took place in Rezekne. As part of the Forum, a book by Zenonas Butkus "The Idea and Practice of the Baltic States Unity from 1918 to 1940" and a collection of Latvian and Lithuanian poetry compiled by Dace Markus and Daiga Joma were presented.

We, the leaders of the former captive nations from Eastern Europe and current members of the European Union and NATO– Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland – are extremely concerned about the actions of the Russian Federation against Georgia.
We strongly condemn the actions by the Russian military forces against the sovereign and independent country of Georgia.

Pierre Morel, the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, is also taking part in the talks. The objective of the political consultations is to examine the prospects for co-operation between Baltic, Nordic, and Central Asian states, focusing on collaboration in education.
