The Canadian-Latvian community is an active one, with local organizations crossing the country from east to west coasts, with the largest Latvian communities located in Ontario, and the largest umbrella organization being LNAK. Though there was limited immigration at the turn of the 2oth century, the majority of Latvians arrived in Canada in the late 1940's and early 1950's in the waves of displaced person ("DP") immigration following World War II. The Latvian community in Canada constitutes one of the largest and most influential Latvian communities outside of Latvia.
