Foreign Minister strongly condemns attack on U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya

12 Sep 2012

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs has sent a letter of condolence to the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton strongly condemning the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in the Libyan city of Benghazi that killed the United States Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other U.S. embassy staff.

‟This barbaric attack on a diplomatic mission deserves to be condemned in the strongest terms and has no justification whatsoever,” accentuates the Foreign Minister. In this sad moment, Latvia as a close ally to the United States would like to express solidarity with the U.S. diplomatic corps and the whole American nation, as well as offering deepest condolences to the family members, relatives and friends of the victims.

‟Despite the villainous act of taking the lives of foreign diplomats in this attack, religious extremism and the ideology of hatred are inevitably doomed to defeat,” Minister Rinkēvičs emphasised.
