On 9 June at 10 a.m., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the National Meeting on Implementation of the EUSBSR (the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, further – the Strategy). The purpose of the seminar is to inform experts, business people, local authorities and non-governmental organisations about the opportunities to develop regional co-operation projects in line with the Strategy, with a particular focus on attracting funds.

The meeting is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, and the INTERACT point in Turku. The speakers at the event are representatives from the Foreign Ministry, the European Commission, INTERACT, the European Investment Bank, and the Nordic Investment Bank.

The participants hear will about the co-ordination in Latvia of the implementation of the Strategy and its Action Plan. The seminar will present a European Commission's insight into the implementation progress and the availability of technical assistance. It will also be possible to learn more about support from the EIB and the NIB.  The experts from INTERACT Point Turku will highlight different project financing possibilities within the Strategy.

The seminar will also introduce the audience to various ongoing regional co-operation projects, and invite to a discussion on different solutions for attracting the funding from the EU and other sources.

The second part of the meeting will be held in two parallel working sessions according to co-operation objectives set by the Strategy:

1st session - Environmental Sustainability, Safety and Security

2nd session - Region's Prosperity, Accessibility and Attractiveness

Upon prior application, experts offer individual consultations on implementing specific projects.

The EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region was adopted by the European Council in October 2009. An Action Plan has been developed for the Strategy, laying down 15 co-operation priorities and including 80 pilot projects.

The number of seminar participants is limited. We request all those interested to apply for participation before 5 p.m. on Friday, 4 June by writing to e-mail address: bjs@mfa.gov.lv.
