On March 26-27, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins takes part at Brussels Forum 2010 in Belgium. Brussels Forum is an annual a high-level conference of the most influential European and American political, intellectual and corporate leaders to jointly address current challenges.
In view of the institutional changes in the European Union, related to the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, this year's discussions will focus on possibilities for deepening transatlantic cooperation. During their discussions, the participants are expected to exchange opinions on global challenges like the international financial crisis, climate change, and energy and security policy. Participants include heads of state, senior officials from the European Union institutions and the member states, U.S. Cabinet officials, Congressional representatives, academics, and media. The international conference will be opened by the Prime Minister of Belgium, Yves Leterme, and participating in panel discussions are President of the European Council, Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso, the EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
