Foreign Ministry diplomats update Finnish students on Latvian-Finnish cooperation [02 Mar 2010] |

On 2 March, the Ministry of Foreign affairs hosted a visit by a group of students from the Faculty of Education at the University of Oulu, Finland. The students met with diplomats and got acquainted with the ministry work. Telling students about the Latvia-Finland relations and co-operation were Third Secretary of the Foreign Economic Relations Promotion Division, Marika Simanovica, and First Secretary of the Baltic, Nordic Countries and Regional Co-operation Division, Daina Steinberga. The students were interested not only in co-operation between Latvia and Finland, but also in the current economic situation in Latvia, the stability of Latvia's currency under crisis, as well as the impact of the European Union on today's financial situation and the economic development indicators of Latvia. The visitors also asked about the political situation and the system of political parties in Latvia. Third Secretary Elina Kreslina spoke about the work of the ministry, the ministry building and the gallery of foreign ministers' portraits. The students from the Oulu University spent three days in Latvia as part of their visit to the Baltic state. They visited the Foreign Ministry, the University of Latvia, other institutions and schools. The study trip was made within the framework of an academic programme at the University of Oulu. The university is organising student trips of this kind on regular basis in order to acquaint them with education systems in various countries and with relations between states.
