Foreign Ministry positive about election proceedings in Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is appreciative of the proceedings of the 17 January presidential election in Ukraine that ware transparent and on the whole in line with international standards. 

In accordance with the preliminary conclusions by the OSCE Observer Mission, the election process secured the elector's freedom of choice. The transparency of the election process is attested by a considerable presence of international observers.

Election results still pending, and a forthcoming second round scheduled for 7 February, the Foreign Ministry would nevertheless like to express hope that also the second round of presidential elections in Ukraine will take place without any incidents, in a fair and democratic manner and under an open competition.
