Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins to meet Sweden's EU Minister [02 Mar 2010]

On 3 March, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will meet with the Minister for European Union Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office of Sweden, Birgitta Ohlsson, with the aim of discussing the current issue on the European Union agenda, including preparations for the European Council meeting on 25-26 March. The parties will also review the upcoming EU Strategy 2020, the climate change policy and the strategy in the wake of the Copenhagen Climate Conference, as well as bilateral co-operation matters. The ministers are expected to exchange opinions on topics related to the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, adopted during Sweden's EU Presidency.

Ms Ohlsson was appointed Minister for EU Affairs of Sweden on 2 February this year. Before taking office, she has been a Member of the Riksdag, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, and a spokesperson on foreign affairs for the Liberal Party.

Sweden's EU Affairs Minister is visiting all the three Baltic states.
