Latvian and Maltese Foreign Ministers discuss mutual support for nominees to international organisations and EU agencies

On September 22, during the UN General Assembly session, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Malta, Tonio Borg.

Both parties discussed bilateral relations, the current European Union issues, including the EU migration policy, as well as mutual support for candidates from both countries to international organisations and the European Union agencies.

The Maltese Foreign Minister introduced his Latvian counterpart to Malta's application for hosting the European Asylum Support Office, the decision on which will be taken within the EU framework.

Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins, on his part, informed about the nominee by the Government of Latvia for the office of the director of the EU Satellite Centre (see further information on http://www.eusc.europa.eu) – Head of the Geospatial Information Policy Planning and Supervision Division in the Ministry of Defence, Dina Giluce.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins invited his Maltese colleague to visit Latvia for an in-depth discussion on bilateral co-operation possibilities.
