Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins to take part in regular session of UN General Assembly
From 21 to 26 September, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will take part in the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, U.S. As each year, the session will be opened by a General debate with the participation of heads of state and government and of foreign ministers. During the UN General Assembly, bilateral meetings have been scheduled for Minister Riekstins with foreign ministers of Canada, Israel, Kazakhstan, Malta, Montenegro and Serbia, as well as other bilateral talks. Foreign Ministers of the EU Member States will hold a separate meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, as well as with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. State Secretary Clinton will also host a dinner for transatlantic partners. During the session, a number of multilateral encounters have also been envisaged: a meeting between Baltic and Nordic Foreign Ministers, as well as a meeting of the heads of diplomatic services of the Baltic and Nordic countries with the Central Asian foreign ministers.
