Foreign Ministry Secretary of State and Ambassador of India agree on promotion of economic co-operation [23 Oct 2009]

On 22 October, the Foreign Ministry Secretary of State Andris Teikmanis met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Latvia, Balkrishna Shetty who was on a working visit in Latvia.  

During the meeting, the parties agreed that a number of events should be initiated for the promotion of economic co-operation between Latvia and India, including a visit by senior officials together with a business delegation. Mr Teikmanis emphasized that the bilateral legal framework should be further expanded, and mentioned an Intergovernmental Commission as an effective instrument for supporting economic co-operation. The Indian side indicated that expanding the network of Latvia's Honorary Consuls in India would also be a significant instrument for strengthening economic links.

The parties emphasised good co-operation between Latvia and India within international organisations. State Secretary Teikmanis also informed his partner about the current developments in relation to the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.
