Foreign Ministry Secretary of State and Ambassador of India agree on promotion of economic co-operation [23 Oct 2009] |

On 22 October, the Foreign Ministry Secretary of State Andris Teikmanis met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Latvia, Balkrishna Shetty who was on a working visit in Latvia. During the meeting, the parties agreed that a number of events should be initiated for the promotion of economic co-operation between Latvia and India, including a visit by senior officials together with a business delegation. Mr Teikmanis emphasized that the bilateral legal framework should be further expanded, and mentioned an Intergovernmental Commission as an effective instrument for supporting economic co-operation. The Indian side indicated that expanding the network of Latvia's Honorary Consuls in India would also be a significant instrument for strengthening economic links. The parties emphasised good co-operation between Latvia and India within international organisations. State Secretary Teikmanis also informed his partner about the current developments in relation to the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. (End of text) | |||||
