On 21-22 October, Head of Economic and Bilateral Relations Directorate, Ambassador Maija Manika attends the European Development Days organised by the Swedish EU Presidency and the European Commission. As part of the Development Days, Ms Manika will take part at the informal dinner for the European Development ministers where a debate has been planned on transatlantic co-operation between the EU and the U.S. in the field of development co-operation. The European Development Days are a yearly event hosted jointly by the European Commission and the EU Presidency devoted to development co-operation policy and brings together development co-operation donors and beneficiaries, as well as international organisations, NGOs and representatives from the academic sector. The theme of the 2009 European Development Days is civil society and climate change. Participating countries and organisations contribute to the Development Days by their presentation stands which display information for participants and visitors, and invite to discussion and making contacts. This year, the Baltic countries have set up a joint stand under the title Baltic countries – together for development cooperation. Also participating at the European Development Days are SIA Vides projekti (Environmental projects), the associations Līdere (Female leader) and the Latvian Platform for Development Co-operation.
