Foreign Minister to meet with President of European Parliament

On 1 October Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will meet with Jerzy Buzek, the President of the European Parliament, who will make an official visit to Latvia. The officials plan to discuss institutional changes envisaged in the Lisbon Treaty, appointment of the composition of the European Commission, the Eastern Partnership, the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and other issues on EU's agenda, as well as current events in international policy.

Jerzy Buzek will visit Latvia to express Europe's solidarity with Latvia during economic crisis. The former Prime Minister of Poland was elected the President of the European Parliament on 14 July 2009.

As part of the visit, Jerzy Buzek will also meet with President Valdis Zatlers, Speaker of the Saeima Gundars Daudze and Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis.
