Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins to take part at annual meeting of OSCE foreign ministers
On 1-2 December, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will take part in the annual meeting of the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) foreign ministers, organised by Greece currently holding the OSCE presidency.
The focal topic of the meeting will be the so called Corfu Process of discussions between countries on various issues of European security, covering all three OSCE dimensions – politico-military, economic and human. The ministers will also review other topics of current importance, including energy security, transnational threat as well as the media freedom. On 27-28 June 2009 the informal meeting of OSCE foreign ministers on the Greek island of Corfu launched the "Corfu Process" to tackle European security challenges through a closer dialogue among countries. In 2010, the OSCE presidency will be assumed by Kazakhstan.
