Open Day at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
On 25 November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will open its doors to secondary school and university students and others interested in the work of the Ministry. During the event, diplomats will inform visitors about the foreign service of Latvia and about current developments in foreign policy.
The Open Day visitors will be welcomed by Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins, the Press Secretary of the Ministry, former Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Rets Plesums, Director of the Consular Department Zanda Grauze, as well as diplomats from the European Department, Security Policy Department, Economic Relations and Development Co-operation Department and the State Protocol. Director of the Latvian Institute, former Ambassador of Latvia to the United States, Ojars Kalnins will lead a discussion about the present-day image of Latvia.
The Open Day participants will have an opportunity to see the renovated building of the Ministry and the gallery of portraits of former foreign ministers. Besides, the visitors will see a unique exhibition The Story of Latvia's Red-White-Red Flag telling the history of the Latvian flag and displaying the very first red-white-red national flag.
The programme of seminars *:
- 9:00- 10:00 Meeting with an ambassador. How to be a good diplomat?
- 10:00-11:00 The Lisbon Treaty. What changes will it bring to the European Union?
- 11:00-12:00 Latvia's external economic relations. How do we help Latvia's businesses?
- 12:00-13:00 The State Protocol - visits, diplomatic etiquette, manners and customs of different countries.
- 13:00-14:00 NATO's new Strategic Concept. What is going to change?
- 14:00-15:00 Consular duties as part of foreign service. What should anyone know when going abroad?
- 15:00-16:00 The image of Latvia in the world. What can we do to enhance this image?
* All events include also a tour in the Ministry building.
