Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins and Chairman of Riga City Council, Nils Usakovs, will discuss international partnership [20 Jul 2009]

On 20 July, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will met with the Chairman of the Riga City Council, Nils Usakovs, to discuss future co-operation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Riga City Council, by implementing international cooperation projects in Riga and in Riga's sister-cities in the world.

 "Our country has a unified course of foreign policy and it also refers to the co-operation of local governments with neighbouring countries, as well as to the involvement in regional and international projects within the EU and beyond its borders," Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins indicates.

The Foreign Minister highlights the successful co-operation of the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Latvia with the Riga City Council to implement different projects that promote the capital of Latvia in foreign countries. Mr Riekstins also confirmed that the Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic representatives of Latvia are ready to provide further contribution to the facilitation of mutual contacts between local governments.
