Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins sends Independence Day greetings to U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton
Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins has sent a letter of congratulations to the United States Secretary of State, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, on the occasion of the U.S. Independence Day.
In his letter, the Foreign Minister highlights the history of common values which underlie the similar standpoint of Latvia and the United States in their foreign policy. Minister Riekstins also notes that a regular exchange of opinions, participation in various international projects as well as tight contacts at the highest political level bring the countries even closer.
Minister Riekstins notes that this year NATO marked its 60th anniversary and Latvia celebrated five years since its accession to the North Atlantic Alliance. He also indicates at the strong position by Latvia and the U.S. with regard to freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
In his letter, Foreign Minister Riekstins emphasises a common perspective of both countries over the contemporary world as well as successful co-operation to date within the bilateral and transatlantic dialogue.
"The U.S. may rely on Latvia as a close ally in reinforcing transatlantic partnership," indicates Mr Riekstins.
On 4th July, the United States of America marks its Independence Day.
