2nd meeting of Latvia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission to be held in Moscow on 11 November
The Latvia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission is to meet for the second time on 11 November in Moscow. The co-chairmen of both sides had agreed on holding this meeting on 7 July in the capital of Russia. Minister for Finance Atis Slakteris is the Co-Chairman of the Latvian side, whereas the Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin chairs the Russian side.
This meeting will be a significant step in continuing the operation of the Latvia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission as a regular format of bilateral co-operation.
The agenda of the sitting will cover issues of bilateral relations, including a more extensive realization of the existing economic co-operation potential, the development of co-operation in transport and transit, especially the improvement of border traffic flow, reduction of vehicle queues on the border, and other issues related to border crossing. The Commission will review the possibilities for a speedy conclusion of draft agreements which are currently being drawn up and will address several topics of co-operation in culture and education, including items of cultural and historical heritage displaced to Russia, and other similar issues.
As part of the Commission three working groups have been established and hold regular meetings: a Working Group on Economic Co-operation, on Co-operation in Transport, and on Humanitarian Co-operation. On 10 November in Moscow, prior to the sitting of the Intergovernmental Commission, meetings of all three working groups will take place.
