Expert delegation from U.S. Department of Homeland Security visits Latvia

26 May 2008

From 26 to 30 May, a delegation of experts from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is on a working visit in Latvia.

During the visit, the experts of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and representatives of Latvian institutions will discuss issues such as combating terrorism and organised crime, immigration, deportation of persons, society integration, issuing of travel documents; and border security. The U.S. delegation will also visit air, land and sea border crossing points in Latvia, and the passport issuance and personalisation centre.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the visit will provide the U.S. Department of Homeland Security with all the required information to enable Latvia to join the U.S. Visa Waiver Programme by the end of this year.

After the visit to Latvia, the U.S. delegation of experts will visit Lithuania.
