Foreign Minister to discuss current bilateral issues with Kyrgyz Prime Minister

On 22 May Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will meet with Igor Chudinov (Игорь Чудинов), Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the aim of considering bilateral relations, including the intensification of political dialogue and collaboration between institutions of both states. Both states actively co-operate on food quality issues and the prevention of corruption. At the meeting, the ministers are to review topical issues in foreign policy and also the implementation of an EU strategy for Central Asia.

As part of his visit, the Kyrgyz Prime Minister will also meet with Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis and President Valdis Zatlers.

In parallel, two events of great significance will take place during the visit: the first session of the Republic of Latvia-Kyrgyz Republic Intergovernmental Commission on economic, industrial, scientific, and technical co-operation, and the Latvia-Kyrgyz Republic business forum. The commission from the Latvian side will be led by Kaspars Gerhards, the Minister of Economics, and from the Kyrgyz side by Akylbek Japarov, Minister of Economic Development and Trade. It is expected that the Latvia-Kyrgyz Republic business forum will be attended by 20 Kyrgyz business people.
