Study on prevention of corruption in public administration in Baltic Sea Region

On 22 May at 10 am, in Pils iela 21, results of the study Corruption Prevention in Public Administration in the Baltic Sea Region Countries will be presented. The study was conducted under the auspices of the Working Group of Democratic Institutions under the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).  

The study was carried out on the basis of the results of a survey, which had been undertaken in the state administrations of 11 countries around the Baltic Sea. The survey covered such issues as legal instruments for corruption prevention, restrictions for civil servants, internal mechanisms for corruption prevention in institutions, ethics and transparency in the public sector, education and training programmes and instruments of corruption prevention for civil servants, implementation and management of corruption detection and testing mechanisms, and declaration of civil servant income and property.   

One of the objectives set by the Latvian presidency is to reinforce the rule of law in the region exercising good governance, which can be achieved by eliminating corruption in public administration. The study reflects the strategic approach of each country and takes a look at this problem on a regional scale.  

The study was conducted from January to May this year by the centre for public policy Providus in association with representatives of the Working Group of Democratic Institutions.

The presentation of the results of the study will be held in English and everyone is welcome to take part in the event. Journalists will have the opportunity receive a copy of the study paper.
