Foreign Minister to participate in European Council meeting

On 13 and 14 March Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will attend the regular European Council meeting in Brussels. The Latvian delegation will be headed by Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis.

During the European Council meeting the heads of state or government of EU member states plan to launch the new three-year cycle (2008-2010) of the Lisbon strategy, with a focus on climate change and energy, as well as the stability of financial markets. 

At the Council, a report on how climate change impacts on international security by the Secretary-General of the Council of the EU, Javier Solana, and the European Commission will be presented.
