Building of Latvian Permanent Mission to EU to be officially inaugurated
In Brussels, where the regular meeting of the heads of state or government of the EU member states is to take place this week, the new building of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Latvia to the EU will be officially inaugurated with a series of celebratory events.
On Wednesday 12 March, in the presence of Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis and Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins, the diplomatic representation will host a celebratory reception for senior officials of EU institutions, foreign diplomats, and experts.
On Friday 14 March, the singer Ainars Mielavs and the group Parcelaji will give a musical introduction to a celebratory occasion for Latvian diplomats and Latvians working in EU institutions in honour of the official opening of the new building.
Finally, on Sunday 16 March, everyone who visits the new premises during the Open Day event will have the opportunity to view an extensive exhibition of the works of contemporary Latvian artists. The display is being organised by the Art Academy of Latvia, with the kind support of the Rector, Professor Aleksejs Naumovs and the Pro-Rector, Professor Kristaps Zarins.
As previously reported, since 25 January the Latvian Permanent Mission to the EU has been working in a new building located in the centre of Brussels, in a part of the city, which is commonly referred to as 'the European quarter', near the premises of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, and the European Parliament. The building contains spacious representation rooms suitable for hosting receptions and art events.
