Dutch Ambassador in farewell meeting with Foreign Minister

14 Jul 2008

On July 15 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Robert Shuddeboom, will pay a farewell visit to Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins.

The officials are expected to talk about the key projects of co-operation between Latvia and the Netherlands realised during the Ambassador's term in office and the future advance of bilateral relations. The sides will also look at the future of the Treaty of Lisbon, the priorities of the French EU presidency, as well as other issues of EU and international policy. During the conversation, the Foreign Minister and the Ambassador will also pay attention to the co-operation between the Benelux and Baltic states.

Latvia and the Netherlands are linked by an active political, economic, and cultural dialogue. During the Ambassador's term in office, Queen Beatrix has paid a state visit to Latvia and exchange visits have been made by other high-level officials. Active co-operation takes place between the naval forces of both states. In August 2005, an agreement was concluded between the Latvian Ministry of Defence and the Dutch Ministry of Finance on the purchase of five minesweepers from the Royal Netherlands Navy.

Robert Shuddeboom was accredited as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Latvia in June 2004.
