Latvian soldiers in Afghanistan to watch Latvian news programme "Panorama"

10 Jul 2008

As of 8 July soldiers on the mission to Afghanistan, in the province of Faryab at the Maiman Provincial Reconstruction Team base, are able to watch a transmission of the Latvian television news programme "Panorama" each evening at 10 pm.

This opportunity, for soldiers of the National Armed Forces contingent, to watch Latvian news in Afghanistan was provided on the initiative of the Latvian Foreign Ministry political and development adviser, Rudolfs Bremanis. Support was received from the National Radio and Television Council and Latvian Television, as well from Latvian television technicians and Foreign Ministry IT specialists, in a joint undertaking to provide the most appropriate technical solution for a high-quality transmission of the news broadcast to Afghanistan.

The soldiers at the Maiman base watch the news broadcasts on a big screen in the communal recreation room. There is also the possibility of watching recordings of the programmes at any other time on television screens in the recreation room.
