Latvian Ambassador presents credentials in Brazil
On 7 July the accreditation took place of the first non-resident Latvian Ambassador to Brazil, Artis Bertulis. Mr Bertulis now officially begins to fulfil duties as Ambassador, promoting political, trade, culture and education links between the two countries. At the same time Mr Bertulis will continue to serve as Latvia's Ambassador in Lisbon, Portugal.
Whilst in Brazil Ambassador Bertulis will have a broad-ranging programme of accreditation visits, meeting with political, international organisation, trade and cultural department officials at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as meetings at the Brazilian parliament. In addition there will be an introductory visit programme to Brazil's major cities of Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro.
On 9 June this year, in Riga, the first ever political consultations between Latvia and Brazil took place. For the past 15 years the interests of Latvia have been represented at Sao Paolo in Brazil by Latvian Honorary Consul Janis Grimbergs. Brazil is home to the largest Latvian community in Latin America.
