Foreign Ministry Secretary of State meets Ambassador of Finland to Latvia

On 1 August 2008, Normans Penke, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with Pekka Wuoristo, Ambassador of Finland, who had called on a farewell visit.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the good relations existing between Latvia and Finland, and also with the successful co-operation both at bilateral and EU level, taking special note of topics such as the upcoming EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, energy, border crossing, and other issues. Mr Penke emphasized that in the future as well it will be important to co-operate in the forging of EU opinion and in sending a clear message with regard to the eastern neighbours of the EU, including Georgia.

Ambassador Wuoristo expressed his confidence that the next Finnish Ambassador will take an active interest in the development of the bilateral relations between Latvia and Finland and in the resolution of issues of joint concern.
