Information on Latvia's Schengen membership presented in Kaliningrad
On 28 January in Kaliningrad, the Chancellery of the Latvian Embassy to the Russian Federation's Consular Division in Kaliningrad, the Tourism Development State Agency (TAVA), and the airline airBaltic held a meeting with sixty-two tourism companies of the region and journalists from television, newspapers and radio, to inform and answer questions about travel regulations since Latvia joined the Schengen agreement.
TAVA and airBaltic briefed the 80-strong audience on the range of their offers and answered numerous questions concerning visa application and travel procedures in the states which form the Schengen area.
Representatives from the Kaliningrad Oblast authorities expressed their gratitude for the valuable event and reiterated the conviction expressed by tourism companies that already this year Latvia may see a considerable increase in the number of visitors.
The meeting took place as part of an information campaign in the CIS countries held by the Foreign Ministry, in association with the Ministry of Economics, TAVA and the national airline airBaltic. The aim of the campaign is to inform local media and tourism agencies on Latvia's accession to the Schengen Treaty and about new travel opportunities which have opened for citizens of CIS countries since 21 December 2007.
