Latvian Ambassador presents credentials to President of Albania
On 17 January, Astra Kurme, Ambassador of Latvia presented her credentials to President of the Republic of Albania, Bamir Topi. During the ceremony, there was a brief discussion on relations between Latvia and Albania. Other topics touched upon, such as the situation in the Balkan Region, European prospects for Albania, as well as possible co-operation in the field of economy and business.
As part of the accreditation visit, the Ambassador also met with Sali Berisha, Prime Minister of Albania.
On 18 January, the Ambassador is to discuss the current and potential co-operation between the two countries, in meetings with Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha of Albania, and Fatmir Çela, Head of the Bilateral Relations Direction of the Albanian Foreign Ministry, as well as with Gjokë Uldedaj, President of the Tiran Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Astra Kurme has worked at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1993. Before her appointment to Italy, she was the Under-Secretary of State for EU Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2006, Ms Astra Kurme was accredited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Italy, Malta, and the UN FAO (United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation). In 2007, Ms Kurme was appointed Ambassador to the Most Serene Republic of San Marino. Ambassador Kurme resides in Rome, Italy.
