Latvian complement of State Border Demarcation Commission announced
At a meeting of State Secretaries on 28 February a draft order was issued: "On the appointment of representatives to the Latvia and Russia joint State Border Demarcation Commission". Ambassador Janis Lovniks was appointed commission Chairman for the Latvian side. The Deputy Chairman will be Deputy Director of Geodesic and Cartography Affairs of the Geospatial Information Agency of Latvia, Aivars Ratkevics. Other members of the commission have been appointed from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Property Agency of the Interior, the State Border Guard and the State Land Service.
The commission is being formed in line with Section 5 of the border agreement signed between the Republic of Latvia and the Federation of Russia on 27 March last year, which provides for the formation of a joint Latvia and Russia demarcation commission. The commission will work to determine and to physically mark the border between Latvia and Russia, and to prepare demarcation documentation.
