Foreign Ministry State Secretary discusses Latvia and U.S. priorities with Ambassador

On 20 February the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Normans Penke, met with the U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Charles Larson Jr.

At the meeting both officials discussed Latvia and U.S. co-operation priorities and current issues. During talks both sides re-affirmed commitment to the continuation of co-operation on issues of security policy in preparation for the approaching NATO summit. Co-operation on missions, in patrolling air space and in the context of the EU Neighbourhood Policy was highlighted. The State Secretary and the U.S. Ambassador also discussed the prospects of Latvia joining the Visa Waiver Programme, as well as increased collaboration in the exchange of energy technology and innovation, in addition to continuing co-operation in the fields of economics, justice and education. Mr Penke confirmed Latvia's readiness to take part in the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference, which is to take place early March.

Both sides emphasised that it is essential to maintain an active Latvia and U. S. dialogue at all levels.
