Foreign Minister to visit Croatia, Albania, and Macedonia
From 19 to 22 February, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will make working visits to Croatia, Albania, and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Meetings with the presidents, foreign ministers, and other senior office-holders of all three states are scheduled for the Foreign Minister.
At the meetings, it is planned to discuss the course of internal reforms and the current situation in Croatia, Albania, and Macedonia before the upcoming NATO summit in Bucharest, Romania on 3 and 4 April, where a decision to invite these NATO candidate states to join the alliance may be made.
Similarly, a discussion on the current situation in Western Balkans and Latvia's bilateral relations with each of the states is anticipated. During the visit to Albania on 21 February, the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with Respect to Taxes on Income and Capital and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania is expected to be signed. On 22 February, an Honorary Consulate of Latvia will be opened in the Western Macedonian city of Stip.
