Finance Minister - new chairman of Latvian side of Latvia-Russia Inter-governmental Commission

18 Feb 2008

On 18 February, "Amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers order No. 165 of 21 March 2007 On the Latvia-Russia Inter-governmental Commission" were adopted. The amendments stipulate that Finance Minister Atis Slakteris has been appointed as the new chairman of the Latvian side of the Latvia-Russia Inter-governmental Commission. The changes to the Latvian side of the commission were necessary because of the recent re-organisation of government ministers.

With the adoption of the amendments, the Latvian side has taken all the necessary steps to ensure a full-fledged operation of the commission and to work on organising a commission session in Russia this June. Until this session, both sides still have to hold joint meetings of all task forces of the commission. A meeting of the Task Force on Humanitarian Co-operation is planned to take place on 27 February in Riga, and the Task Force on Economic Co-operation will meet at the beginning of April.
