Ambassador of Cote d'Ivoire discusses bilateral relations with Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary of State

13 Feb 2008

On 13 February Ilgvars Klava, the Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary of State, met with Gnagno Philibert Fagnidi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire to Latvia.

Until now, bilateral co-operation has occurred mostly within international organisations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is of the view that a good foundation for further advancement of relations could be developed in the context of EU-Africa relations, and particularly with Latvia's involvement in the Joint Africa-EU Strategy and Action Plan.

The Ambassador of Cote d'Ivoire also expressed interest and determination to develop bilateral relations. As the first step in this respect, the Ambassador suggested the appointment of an Honorary Consul in Latvia.

Diplomatic relations with Cote d'Ivoire were established on 4 June 1996. From 28 May 2002 to 16 November 2007, the Ambassador of Cote d'Ivoire to Latvia was Jean-Claude Kalou-Dje. The Ambassador resides in Moscow, Russia.
